Making your own shapes work for you

Monday, May 31st, 2010

In the land of squares and rounded corners, some people often feel trapped. What if a personality doesn't quite fit to that standard. What if you're more of a circle? Or a triangle?

Or hell, some crazy thing like this that looks like a house? Yep. That's me. I'm a house.

Luice Design saw a customer recently who also felt like a house and so they printed these wonderful 16 pt matte business cards with a custom die-cut shape to make a totally unique, one-of-a-kind card that no one else has ever seen.

The next time you want to print cards and want to turn yourself into a different shape, check out Luice Design's custom quote form. That'll help you get started and make it easier for the designers working on your project.

Foil…not just for paper anymore.

Foil printing is a great technique for business cards. But did you also know you can print it on a t-shirt? No...I didn't think you did because I sure as hell didn't.

Luice Design printed up these sexy t-shirts with foil printing. What the heck?! So awesome. T-shirts is not something they usually do, but maybe you should call 'em up and bug them to print your shirts the next time you need em. FOIL SHIRTS. WHAT?!?!

awesome.

Red light special!

Luice Design is a fantastic design company. I know you hear me talk about those guys a lot but seriously, when you look at a smokin' hot business card like this and then realize that it's probably one of the simplest types of cards your money can buy...you gotta hand it to them for making such smart printing choices.

Rounded corners with 16pt matte on a business card might not seem like a lot, especially if you read this blog and see about all the other crazy printing options I love so much. However, it really hits it out of the park. Not all of our clients will need fancy inks or crazy textures.

Sometimes, with simple designs like this...the best thing to do is give 'em a think stock with a soft surface and throw in some rounded corners that'll really seal the deal: making this another fantastic business card.

Foldin’ on up

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

Here's another lovely from Lucie Design's shop. I saw this one and had to share it. There's nothing particularly stunning about the card, I'll admit...especially in jpg form.

HOWEVER...what's so important about this card is that 1) it folds so that brings me to my second point 2) it's Huge!

That's right. The fold over business card is a great choice if you really want to make use of your creative's design skills. Instead of just two sides you literally have four sides to express yourself, or make a longer design and one that is more complex.

Silver Lining

Friday, May 21st, 2010

In the world of graphic design you have regular business cards...the kind that look like they were printed at home, with zero creativity.

And then there's this. Yes. This beauty from Luice Design's production studio showcases a very special type of card that I always love talking about. Not many people choose this stock because it's out of the ordinary, but that's what makes it so great!

Silver metallic 30 mm stock. One of a kind selections for such a bold design...it deserves no less!

Gold is the new everything

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

Ever hear someone use the phrase, golden oldie? Well now its all about golden newbies! Luice Design's got a great new promo card out that illustrates the use of a special plastic card stock option with gold metallic. This is a 30 mm plastic gold business card, one that's been getting a lot of praise in the design world.

While silver plastic cards are great and shiny, nothing compares to the magically hypnotic ability in a gold style card. We humans shouldn't be afraid to admit that we like shiny things, plain and simple.

So give your people shiny things!

Mix masters!

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

Luice Design just recently printed a sample card to illustrate the fact that boundaries were made to be pushed and broken, which is something these cats do practically all day long!

We've got a crazy mix-up of styles; someone like me would never think to put all these together. Hell, I didn't really think you could do something so crazy like this. There's like 5 different options here! A truly unique card from a truly unique printing agency.

The die-cut rounded corners was a beautiful start, I love rounded edges and it's something you'd only be able to specify with the custom order form. Actually, this entire card..you can't just select this option you've gotta do the special order!

Silver metallic on plastic is an interesting mix. The glittery metallic ink shimmers especially nice on that plastic card stock. Plus it's a different kind of thick! Not like paper! Adding a silk finish is another great touch, giving it that really smooth feeling in your hands. I could rub this card all day long and not get tired of it. Keep it in my pocket and rub it for luck!

And finally, as if they couldn't get any more creative with this thing, they gave their awesome design the highlights it deserves with spot UV, making it shine and pop right off the card. It'll flash in the light and draw you right in. Really effective!

Goodness!!!! You'll have to excuse my printing geek-out session. This is almost too much! But hey...what's this blog for? Right?

Come on! Geek out about this with me! This freaking thing rules!

What a great way to start my weekend.
