How NOT to make an impression

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

I recently requested a sample of some wood business cards, because here at Luice Design Full Color Printing we're always looking for new killer materials for YOU to print your business cards on.

WELL, what I received wasn't exactly a sample of a wooden business card so much as it was an envelope sized sample of wood veneer with our Luice Design address hand written on it (it's good that you can write on something that you are suppose to be able to print on). Very unspectacular, but very creative. I had no idea the US post office would mail such a bizarre looking excuse for a postcard, anyway it was very, uh, memorable...

It's exactly what I've been blogging about when it comes to making a good impression. In this case it's memorable - just not in the good way.

I would've LOVED to have some cool wood business cards to show you guys, but all i have is a thin, cracked, curled letter sized veneer and definitely not in the shape of any world standard of business card except maybe a tribe located somewhere in the mist of a rain forest. Nice grain though I suppose. I think it would have been more impressive for it to have come with a little termite to go with the earthy theme of the letter.

Watch your business grow!!! kinda….

I mentioned the seed cards before, and now I have examples.

It's kind of hard to make out in the photos, but if you look closely you'll see that the paper is kind of bumpy. Those are the seeds that are embedded into the paper. As mentioned before, heavy ink coverage isn't recommended on this paper.
If I were a florist or a gardener, I'd have these cards no doubt. They're really neat!

Clearly a business card.

How many plastic business cards have you gotten? Probably not many. Most people associate plastic cards with credit cards or gift cards. That's not an incorrect assumption at all. Most plastic cards ARE those things, but who says you can't have a business card. It's pretty memorable if you ask me. You can pull off some pretty cool effects too.
Like the cards below. Crystal clear plastic. How neat! One of the cards below is printed in 2 colors with foil stamping on it, and the other is just a simple 3 color printing. Both really killer business cards.
The plastics can be done in a opaque color, frosted, or the crystal clear and you can have up to 4 color printing on them. The clear cards are fun because you can have half opaque and half transparent, or smaller sections of both. It's really up to you.

The hottest business card of all!

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

If you were in the scene from "American Psycho" that I mentioned before and you threw one of these down, Christian Bale's head just might have exploded.  THIS is the ultimate business card!

They're metal photo cards.  More bad ass then the metal business cards!  These aren't etched into metal, the aluminum is flashed and then treated like you would a photograph and then sealed.  It's a black and white, or gray scale image but it's the ENTIRE image.  As long as it's high resolution, it'll look like original image.
Essentially the image is imprinted into the aluminum much like a tattoo.  You can scratch the surface but you can't remove the image.  THAT is just cool!

Better pictures to come!

Water. Proof. Cards. YAY!

Friday, June 19th, 2009

For some reason, we seem to be kind of big on the "tough" business cards here at Luice Design Full Color Printing.  "Tough?" you say to me, as if you don't understand.

Allow me to elaborate.  We've discussed the metal cards numerous times, and they're incredibly bad ass.  BUT sometimes maybe they're just too much.
What about the silk cards Still killer, but not as tough as the metal.  Trust me though, they're obscenely hard to tear.
What else is there...?  There's a new product out now.  I have NO idea what it's called, but it's a legitimately waterproof card.  The material itself is almost rubbery, but not elastic and will last for a long LONG time.  It's about as thick as a 10PT paper stock.

You can put your card or flier or whatever in a glass of water and it'll come out just fine!  This is something that would be perfect for a dive or swimming instructor, fishing boat owner, anything that has to do with water.

It'd be a real cool idea for someone who wants to promote an event at a bar.  Get the fliers made out of this stuff and they won't get all nasty sitting on the bar with drinks being spilled all over them.  Then you could just collect them at the end of the night and rinse them off and reuse them!  HA!  Ok that's a little ridiculous...but you get what I'm saying.

Another cool thing about this material is it's durability.  Short of actually cutting the cards in half, you can't tear them.  Even the metal cards can be bent!!!

Call us right NOW @ 561.429.6131 if you have any questions about these.  They're not available on the Luice Design Full Color Printing site just yet but give it time!

GUESS WHAT!!!

I found something new!

These things are pretty damn cool, especially if you're into the "going green" thing.  They're seed infused business cards.  Business cards, printed on seed paper!  More than a business card... IT'S A PLANT!!!!  Sorta.
You can actually put your business card in the dirt and it'll grow.  How cool is that!?  Plantable seed business cards are perfect for environmental, natural foods and gardening businesses.  Or anyone who wants to help the environment in general.  These cards grow across all growing regions and include a hearty mix of annual and perennial wildflower seeds.  You can't even litter with these cards.  Throw it out the window of your car, and it's just going to turn into a flower!  Here at Luice Design we're all about the killer specialty cards.  These are high impact promotional items you can feel good about!  Especially if you cater to eco friendly clients.

There are only a few limitations to these cards though.  Generally they're only printed on one side and you can't do heavy ink coverage on them.  They can be printed in full color no problem, but because of the paper, doing a card that's covered fully may reduce the quality of the design and no one wants that!

“Hi, my name is Bob. Here’s my card. I…do nothing.”

Just because you don't have a business doesn't mean you can't have a sick business card.  Maybe you do something in your spare time and want to have a card for that.  There's nothing wrong with having a card with only your name and number on it.  Essentially your business card advertises you anyway, regardless of whether or not you have a business.
You can simply hand your card to someone and say "call me if you need anything... literally."

I once got a business card from a guy I was serving when I worked at a restaurant.  It had his name, and all these amazing achievements that he either actually did or didn't do.  It doesn't matter, really.  He had listed: wars won, damsels rescued, dog fight ace, tank commander, dictators vanquished and all kinds of other crazy stuff.  It was hilarious and the card made it around the entire wait staff.  Visually it wasn't all that interesting of a card, but the content was great.
You can have all kinds of fun with this stuff, so do it!  Life is short.  Enjoy it!
